Abbeyview Surgery GP included in list of 50 unsung GPs

A local GP has been selected by Pulse as one of its 50 unsung GPs around the country, following a nomination from a patient.

Dr Fleur England, GP Partner, The Abbeyview Surgery, Crowland, was nominated for treating every patient “as if she has all the time in the world”, was praised by the patient for her “instant adaptation to new ways of working” and described as “a credit to the profession.”

Pulse, which is a monthly magazine and website aimed at healthcare professionals, particularly those in primary care, would usually focus every year on the 50 most powerful GPs in the UK, but describing 2020 as “not a normal year” decided instead to celebrate the unsung GPs.

Dr Fleur England“I was surprised and a little taken aback to be included in Pulse’s list of 50 unsung GPs, but quite flattered at the same time,” comments Dr England.  “The recognition from Pulse is great, but it’s particularly nice for a patient of mine to take the time to nominate me, and to say such lovely things.”

In deciding to focus on the unsung GPs around the UK, Pulse has recognized the way that primary care works has had to change significantly overnight, and that this has been led by what it calls “grassroots GPs”.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has meant that all of us in primary care have had to drastically alter how we look after our patients and manage their care, with one of the key changes being how patients access GP services in the first place.

“This has been a significant change for patients too, but happily the vast majority have adapted quickly and with no or very little fuss, and are now getting used to phoning us or contacting us online in the first instance, rather than turning up to the practice to make an appointment,” adds Dr England.

Dr England’s nomination and subsequent inclusion in Pulse’s list of unsung GPs has also been recognized by NHS Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

“We are delighted that Dr England has been recognized in this way by Pulse,” adds John Turner, Chief Executive, Lincolnshire CCG.  “Especially at a time when primary care is working unbelievably hard to provide healthcare for all patients and demonstrate that it remains ‘open for business’.  Dr England’s nomination is a credit to her and also to The Abbeyview Surgery, who I know will be hugely proud of her.”
