Abbeyview Surgery in Crowland has been rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), following an inspection carried out on 5 March 2020.
The CQC’s inspectors found that the practice, which provides primary medical care services to its registered list of 7,730 patients, demonstrated a strong patient centred culture, and that patients’ satisfaction with patient experience and access to appointments was consistently higher than the average.
The CQC rates GP practices in five distinct areas, as well as giving an overall rating, and Abbeyview Surgery’s ratings are as follows:
- Are services safe? Good
- Are services effective? Outstanding
- Are services caring? Outstanding
- Are services responsive? Outstanding
- Are services well-led? Outstanding
- Overall rating – Outstanding
The practice, which has won various plaudits for its approach, is understandably thrilled to have received its outstanding rating, as Dr Abhijit Banerjee, GP Partner, explains:“Since our last CQC inspection in 2015, when we were rated ‘Good’, our entire practice team has put in a huge amount of work to develop the services we offer our patients, underpinned by a desire to provide the best possible patient experience, so it’s fantastic that this has resulted in our ‘Outstanding’ rating.
“As the CQC’s report highlights, we put our patients’ needs and preferences at the centre of everything we do and we continually strive to ensure flexibility, choice and continuity of care in our approach, and the CQC’s rating of the practice is proof positive of this approach and the success it can bring.”
The practice has had a particularly successful couple of years, during which it has been recognised by the national General Practice Awards in 2018, receiving The Collaboration with Patients and Other Providers Award, as well as being named GP Practice of the Year in the Lincolnshire Health Awards 2019. It was also recognised in the prestigious Parliamentary Review, in an article explaining how the practice worked with its Patient Participation Group to successfully create over 30 additional clinical hours a week.
“The entire team at Abbeyview Surgery has done a superb job in achieving their outstanding rating from the CQC,” adds John Turner, Chief Executive, NHS Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group. “It’s a really impressive result and testament to the fantastic teamwork at the practice, as well as a relentless focus on getting things right for patients and staff, and as CCG we are immensely proud of the team and send them our warmest congratulations.”
