General practitioners (GPs) treat all common medical conditions and refer patients to hospitals and other medical services for urgent and specialist treatment.
They focus on the health of the whole person combining physical, psychological and social aspects of care.
The NHS website has information on GP appointments and how to register with a GP.
Online services
The majority of practices also offer online services 24-7. To book appointments, request sick notes and order repeat prescriptions, download the NHS App on your smartphone.
You can also save time and consult with your GP practice online. Contact your practice for more information. 💻 GP Online Services
Evening and weekend appointments
GPs now provide a range of services online and outside of regular opening hours.
Routine appointments with a GP or practice nurse are available in the evening, at weekends and on bank holidays. Contact your practice to book an appointment.
Out-of-hours
GP services are available 24 hours a day. Outside normal surgery hours, you can still phone the GP surgery, but you’ll usually be directed to the out-of-hours service.
Alternatively, go online via NHS 111 (24 hours a day, seven days a week) for medical advice and treatment.
