All aboard the Lincolnshire vaccination bus!

Mobile vaccination bus

In a further boost to the schedule of pop-up walk-in covid vaccination sessions around the county, it is now possible to get your covid vaccination on board a specially re-purposed bus.

Officially launched during its visit to the Tesco store on Wragby Road, Lincoln, this week, the bus has been kindly loaned to the vaccination programme by Lincolnshire Council Council, who previously used it for covid testing.

To all intents and purposes, the vaccination bus looks like most other single decker buses, but its inside has been remodelled and allows the local NHS vaccination team to welcome people on-board and give them their vaccination.

“We’re putting a lot of effort into our pop-up programme around the county and the introduction of the bus gives us an extra degree of agility, because it allows us to take the covid vaccination out to people,” explains Rebecca Neno, Director of Covid and Influenza Vaccination Programmes, NHS Lincolnshire CCG.

“We already know that people like that they can turn up to any of our pop-up sessions without an appointment and the bus will allow us to focus on specific areas where there may be more of a need for us to visit.  It will be an important addition to our pop-up programme over the coming weeks and we are very grateful to our colleagues at Lincolnshire County Council.”

The latest schedule of pop-up locations – and details on which age groups they are vaccinating – can be found at our Grab a Jab page along with other information on the covid vaccination programme.  And of course, for people who prefer to make an appointment instead, there is still the option to do this by visiting the National Booking System or by calling 119.

“The bus is offering spring boosters to those aged 75 and over, as well as vaccinations to people aged 18 and over.  Sometimes we may be able to vaccinate younger people aged 16 and over on the bus, it just depends on which vaccine we have with us on that particular day.  Our webpage is usually up to date and is the best place to check for where we’re running pop-ups and who for, in terms of age groups,” adds Rebecca.

In addition, the vaccination team at PRSA, Boston, are also now offering walk-in vaccinations for stem cell transplant patients aged 12 and over to have their booster (4th) dose or their spring booster (5th) dose, or for stem cell transplant patients who need to restart their course, and these will be held every Monday between 10am and 11am except 23rd and 30th May.
