Enhanced Bed Management week, 19th-25th October 2021

The urgent and emergency care system in Lincolnshire has seen increased demand and sustained pressure of late and this has resulted in: long waits for treatment at Emergency Departments; long waits for ambulances in the community; and delays to discharge from hospital.

To support the health and social care system a focussed piece of work has been agreed across partners to try to ease some of this by supporting patient flow at Lincoln County and Pilgrim Hospital. This will focus on: patients attending ED overnight not requiring admission; discharge pathway identification; discharge planning for pre-medically optimised patients; and increased support for discharges.

The system Patient Flow programme will lead this exercise and work in collaboration with ULHT, LCHS, ASC, LCCG and be supported by partners.

A similar exercise was undertaken on the run up to Christmas 2020 and into early January 2021. This proved successful in the early identification of discharge pathways and raising discharge levels.

We need every member of staff, from all organisations across Lincolnshire, to commit to supporting patients to return home as soon as they are safe to do so.
