Lincolnshire Showground Mass Vaccination Centre celebrates its first birthday

Lincolnshire Showground 1st birthday cakeHaving given over 225,000 vaccinations, the Lincolnshire Showground Mass Vaccination Centre celebrated its first birthday yesterday, 2nd February.

One of two Mass Vaccination Centres (MVC) in Lincolnshire, the Lincolnshire Showground MVC has given approximately one in eight of all vaccinations (firsts, seconds and boosters) administered in the county since the vaccination programme started a little over a year ago.

“When you think about what the team at the Showground have achieved, it is scarcely believable that it’s only just over a year ago when we were suddenly having to look for venues to host our vaccination teams and we started to think seriously about the Lincolnshire Showground,” explains Rebecca Neno, Director of Covid and Influenza Vaccination Programmes, NHS Lincolnshire CCG.

“Most of us on the team knew the Showground as the site of the Lincolnshire Show, and various other events in a typical year, but who would have thought that we would end up using it as a vaccination centre?”

Located just north of Lincoln, the Lincolnshire Showground MVC has proven itself a very worthy and extremely important part of the county’s vaccination programme.

“The Showground has worked very well for us over the last year, particularly the space it offers inside and out, which came in particularly useful at the height of the booster programme in the run up to Christmas,” explains Julie Humphreys, Head of Clinical Services, Lincolnshire Showground Mass Vaccination Centre.

“I am amazingly proud of the team here at the Showground, who have worked tremendously hard for a very long time now, often vaccinating between a thousand and two thousand people a day.  I’d also like to thank our colleagues at the Lincolnshire Showground, who have been so helpful to us over the last year.”

The Lincolnshire Showground MVC continues to be a significant part of the vaccination programme locally, as the ‘evergreen’ offer continues, enabling people to come forwards and get their vaccinations, including first and second doses, and boosters.

“I am very proud of everything that Julie and her team at the Showground have achieved, often in extremely trying circumstances and/or during times of great pressure – they have managed all of this with huge skill, and I think the people they have vaccinated over the last year will also be enormously grateful for this,” adds Rebecca.

In addition to the Showground, the county’s other vaccination sites continue to offer first and second doses, and boosters to anyone eligible.  The effort to take the vaccination programme out to people also continues, with the remaining pop-up vaccinations sessions this week as follows:
